SEWING CLUB PODCAST EP 17 | PIETRA PANTS

SEWING CLUB PODCAST EP 17 | PIETRA PANTS

It's time for episode # 17 of Sewing Club Podcast! This episode is all about the Pietra Pants by Closet Core Patterns. We've been long-time fans of Closet Core (previously Closet Case Files) and were so excited to feature one of Heather's patterns on the poddy.

Pattern: Pietra Pants by Closet Core Patterns

Size: 4

Fabric: Cotton Twill Bottom-weight (quite stiff and dense)

We thought it was about time that we chose another garment for the bottom half, so we settled on shorts! We could have chosen between any of the Closet Core patterns but we landed on the Pietra's because both Gemma and I really liked the look of the seam lines and it seemed to be a fairly popular pattern as well. What we didn't realise out of Closet Core's whole library of patterns, the Pietra Pants IS their most popular / most sold pattern and forms part of their 'Rome Collection' ~ a handmade capsule wardrobe!

The pattern comes with multiple variations that each look different and they all go together really well. There's a tapered leg long pant, shorts and a wide leg (on the front cover you'll just see the shorts and tapered leg, it wasn't until i looked at it further that I reaslied there was even a wide leg). We went with View C, the shorts!

The sewing process was really straightforward. There is a hidden front facing that is very wide and extends down most of the way towards the crotch so it feels very secure and 'held in' at the front. There's elastic at the back. It's drafted to fit the curves of a body, without having a separate front waistband which gives it a lovely clean finish on the outside. The front feature seam gives a nice visual line but also adds to the shaping up to and around the waist.

The pockets are really simple to construct, there's no back pockets. I actually don't find these pockets all that useful because you can't fit a phone in it, and sit down at the same time. It's good for hands or small items but if you want a pocket to carry your devices, you're better off drafting some simple back pockets.

I'd definitely make these again. My fabric choice was ideal for a pair of shorts but it was just that little bit too stiff for the elastic waist part, so next time I would choose a lighter woven fabric for the shorts. I'm also considering making the wide leg version of the long pants in a viscose or rayon purely for the comfort factor! It would also look chic and a nice thing to sew on in the warmer months here...

You can listen to Sewing Club Episode #17 on Spotify Apple Podcasts or Audible (insert other favourite poddy platform). Here you'll find all the show notes and we'll reveal the pattern for Episode #18 so do join with us in sewing along at home!
